SHOW NOTES: Perhaps you have heard the familiar saying, “Life happens.” There are days, weeks, or seasons when we may find ourselves sitting in the midst of sorrow, looking for a new job, or celebrating the birth of a child or grandchild. God has created us for relationship and each of us benefits greatly when we share authentic connections with others. In Series 2, Walt and Brenda McCord will open the Bible and teach truths from The Book of Ruth. We will begin in Bethlehem and follow this family to the land of Moab where tragedy strikes. SHOW NOTES: Spring is here and the barley harvest has begun! A time for new beginnings in Bethlehem and Ruth asks to go out to the fields and gather grain. “Yes, my daughter.” As the Lord guides, she happens to come to the fields of Boaz. The blessings begin to flow and the God of Israel protects and provides for two widows – Ruth and Naomi. Scripture: Ruth 2:1-13. SHOW NOTES: After hard work and a long morning in the barley field, Ruth is invited to have lunch and a drink of water. Boaz personally serves roasted grain to her. He also gives instruction concerning her to his workers. In another act of generosity, Boaz tells them to pull out some heads of barley from the bundles and drop them on purpose for Ruth. He provides her with “Handfuls – On Purpose!” (Ruth 2:14-23)

SHOW NOTES: Boaz and his workers are at the threshing floor, preparing the grain for storage and celebrating God’s generous harvest. Ruth carefully follows Naomi’s instructions, “Go to the threshing floor but do not let Boaz see you. Watch where he goes to lie down, then go, uncover his feet and lie down.” In the middle of the night, Ruth tells Boaz, “You are my kinsman redeemer.” His godly character shines through, once again, and he promises to settle the matter. In God’s plan, “Character Counts” – always! (Ruth 3:1-18)

SHOW NOTES: Boaz has promised to speak with the closer relative and this important business meeting will take place at the city gate. Ten leaders from Bethlehem are asked to join their conversation as witnesses. Boaz presents the purchase of Naomi’s land and asks if this relative will redeem it. However, the plot thickens when Boaz includes marrying Ruth, the Moabite widow. The unnamed man’s true character is revealed and he hobbles home without one sandal. Tonight’s Scripture: (Ruth 4:1-12)
